Haslemere, Surrey, New Build House
A new family home within the Surrey Hills AONB on the edge of Haslemere, Surrey. The design is a specific response to the landscape of the site where we have used the house to link the unusually generous front garden to the rear south facing garden. We have achieved this by incorporating a double height entrance hall ‘cut through’ running front to back and other smaller vistas that look out and connect to the rolling natural landscape to the rear.
We have also taken cues from the traditional local vernacular of the1930/40’s suburban house with lightweight upper stories, hanging tiles and coursed masonry. The design is a modern take on this type of domestic architecture not only in materials and overhang stories but also in the way we have expressed and caricatured certain features like the pitched roof and chimney.
Construction work has commenced with completion due in late summer 2016.
