Medleys Place Bermondsey, London, New Build
A dense mixed use development on a prominent site fronting Bermondsey St, in London. It consists of 9 new build residential units and 5 new office units arranged around a new yard area, along with the refurbishment of the existing residential units. The site has a long and interesting history, formerly being called Medley’s place and partly used as stabling for horses who were hired out for transport duties to local businesses. To celebrate this Bermondsey wide heritage the facades of some of the now demolished buildings used by these businesses are reinterpreted in ‘ghost form’ on the new buildings. The scheme also seeks to create a lively and vibrant mixed use yard space, using hints from the areas past, such as raised metal walkways and galvanised metal cladding set against the white brick of the main new buildings.
