Stonecrop, Rutland, UK, New build house
On the edge of a village, the house blends with the landscape by its folding green roofs that appear to rise out of the ground and over the two wings. A large solid dry stonewall acts as a thermal buffer and uses the local Clipsham stone. Internally the timber clad ceiling follows the roof profile spiraling over the main living rooms and rising to the highly glazed south views and double height spaces. The two wing strategy provides energy efficiency with only the main wing heated for day-to-day living and the second guest wing opened up when family and friends come to stay.
