Vero Beach, Florida, USA, New build house
A new 600sqm beachfront home that captures aspects of a Floridian context, universally missing in the surrounding bland built environment. Taking cues from the colonial Cracker House ‘dog trots’ (external spaces stretching through the building) the house benefits from natural air and light in the heart of the building. External walls are clad with local coquina ‘coral stone’ interestingly used in colonial era forts, as its spongy texture was good at absorbing canon ball impacts. Construction began August 2014.
