Battle Fach, BRECON BEACONS, WALES

Two dilapidated barns deep in the Brecon Beacons countryside were converted and combined to create a series of flexible spaces which can be used for crafts, hobbies and a place where extended family can stay.

The project was extremely sustainable, retaining and upgrading the existing structure with limecrete floor slabs, hempcrete wall linings and sheep’s wool used in the roof insulation. An air source heat pump runs the water and underfloor heating and an open fire provides a cosy living environment.

New large window openings were created to make the most of the standout feature of the site – the amazing view of Pen Y Fan. Double height spaces contrast with the original low timber beamed ceilings and a new stair connects the upper floors.
